DO NOT POST!!

SPARTAN 18 Mark looked up. "S--t!" he muttered as he grabbed a firm hold on his MA5B Assault Rifle. He looked around, trying to find his fellow squad mates. ~Where are they?~ thought Mark as he finally got up into a crouched position. He looked around his interior, noticing it as an escape pod from a UNSC ship. "That explains a bit," said Mark, thinking aloud this time.

Then it suddenly hit him.

Why the hell was he in an escape pod? Gray Team was supposed to be heading to a Covenant shipyard on the far reaches of UNSC controlled space. So, to ask the question again, why was he here? It seemed stupid that he was. No, impossible. The UNSC Civilized had been a cruiser, and they had been well out of Covenant space, so nothing should of happened to them. That, and the UNSC Civilized was one of the best in the fleet, having been in several engagements against the Covenant and still survived.

Mark scanned the interior of the escape pod. He saw the rest of his fellow Gray Team in it, knocked out. He then noticed weapons in their hands; various assault rifles, some SMGs, Battle Rifles, etc. ~At least we didn't come unarmed. Now, just to find out where the hell we are....~ thought Mark as he walked over to the pilot's seat. He carefully took the unconscious pilot out of the seat (who would later be deemed dead) and laid him on the ground. ~He looks dead...~ thought Mark as he looked down at him, and then turned on the controls.

He looked at the star-map, and then gave a confused look. He then looked up at the 'windows' of the escape pod, and then almost swore so loud it would waken up the rest of the unconscious Gray Team.

They were grounded in a jungle.

"How the hell?" muttered Mark as he peered through the tented windows that were reinforced to stop UV rays. Lush jungle and vegetable growth was abundant, as well as small boulders and mud. Lots of mud. "Great, just what I needed. Stranded on some unknown planet, my team knocked out, and no supplies. Just dandy," murmured Mark, and he had an annoyed expression on his face as well.

Mark finally hopped out of the pilot's seat, and then out of the escape pod's door. He slowly got out, and resumed his crouched position once more as he scanned the area with his rife. He didn't see any enemy hostiles on his radar, so he was safe, though he didn't put down his guard. Covenant Elites, their warrior and leader class, were known to have camouflage that was powerful enough to trick the radar system.

After another fifteen minutes, however, Mark finally relaxed his guard. If there were any hostiles out there, they would of attacked by now. Deeming him and his fellow SPARTAN IIs 'Demons', the Elites would of taking any chance to kill a lone SPARTAN.

Mark began to go over the last few days. Day 1, he and his fellow Gray Team members had been aboard the UNSC Civilized gathering supplies and whatnot. Day 2, they had set off from the Inner Colony Dawn and went straight in Slipstream Space. Day 3,.... nothing. Mark couldn't remember past Day 3. "What the hell?" muttered Mark as he then hit his head in a gesture to help himself remember, but, obviously, it didn't work.

"Alright, well, lets get to work," said Mark, and he then got up from leaning on the escape pod and walked back into it.

-Weapons- *Note*: I am mixing Halo 1 and Halo 2 weapons together. This is taking place in 2552, during the end of the events of Halo 1 and the beginning of the events of Halo 2.

MA5B Assault Rifle: This rifle is gas-operated and magazine-fed. It fires 7.62mm armor-piercing rounds. Rate of fire is limited by a soldier's ability to aim, fire and change magazines. However, if fired in short, controlled bursts it is more accurate than fully automatic fire. The MA5B's integrated computer displays rounds left in the magazines and the relative direction of North for point reference. This feature is particularly useful for orienting you in areas where it's easy to get turned around and lose your sense of direction.

M6D Pistol: This pistol is recoil-operated and a magazine-fed handgun. It is issued with a smart-linked scope capable of 2x magnification. It fires 12.7mm semi-armor-piercing, high-explosive rounds. It can shoot either semi-automatic or automatic fire. Shot placement is very important. The only shot that guarantees immediate and total incapacitation is one roughly centered in the head.

M90 Shotgun: The shotgun is a pump-action magazine-fed (dual tubular non-detachable type) weapon. It fires eight gauge magnum (3.5") rounds. This is weapon is very effective against targets at close range and may be used to engage several targets simultaneously at medium and long range.

S2 AM Sniper Rifle: This rifle is a gas-operated magazine-fed weapon. It is issued a smart-linked scope with two levels of magnification, 2x and 10x. Also, while still in 'zoom-mode' there is a light amplification to see in the dark during night ops. It fires 14.5mm armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding-sabot rounds.

M19 SSM Rocket Launcher: The M 19 SSM is a man-portable and shoulder-fired rocket launcher. It has two major components, the launcher and the magazine. The magazine (the expendable part of the weapon) contains two shaped-charge, high-explosive rockets. It is designed for fast, easy detachment from the launcher. The rocket launcher contains the sighting and fire control systems. Also includes a lock-on targeting system, which is useful against vehicles.

BR55 Battle Rifle: The Battle Rifle fires 9.5mm rounds from a 36-round magazine. Mounted with a 2x scope for targeting. Fires in short, automatic bursts of three rounds. Very accurate, relatively high rate of fire makes it useful all-around infantry weapon.

M7/Caseless Sub Machine Gun (SMG): Nicknamed the "Bullet-hose", it fires sustained bursts of 5mm fire from a 60-round magazine. SMGs, while not accurate of long distances, can provide withering fire at close quarters. It tends to "walk" upwards as compounding momentum from recoil takes hod. Therefore, careful moderation of aim is required to maintain accuracy.

M9 HE-DP Fragmentation Grenade: This basic explosive device has changed little to excellent design and flexibility. A well-thrown grenade will kill or stun most opponents. Fuse activates half a second after striking surface or object to avoid accidental detonation. Also allows combatants to "bounce" grenade into difficult to reach targets.

-Covenant Weapons-

Plasma Pistol: This particular weapon is understood better than most Covenant weapons. The Plasma Pistol is semi-automatic, directed-energy weapon. Fires rapid bursts of superheated plasma, but holding down the trigger for an extended period can build a powerful overcharged plasma bolt. Becomes temporarily unusable as it discharges excess heat. This weapon uses a power core the Humans don't understand.

Plasma Rifle: Favored by the Elites, but used my many Covenant troops, the Plasma Rifle is a directed energy weapon and capable of both automatic and semi-automatic fire. Extended bursts of automatic fire cause the weapon to overheat, temporarily disabling the gun and depleting the energy core. Like the Plasma Pistol, once the energy core is depleted, it is rendered useless.

Needler: This weapon is an unusual magazine-fed weapon which fires razor-sharp crystalline projectiles that use an unexplained homing ability to center on soft organic targets to pierce flesh, no matter the direction of impact. Energy shields deflect them easily, however the MJOLNIR shields have a tough time with them, and they ricochet off of other hard surfaces. Ammunition explodes after it impacts flesh, causing further damage.

Covenant Carbine: A rare Covenant weapon that is quite powerful and of stocky build. Its fitted with a magnifying scope. Fires single rounds with a high degree of accuracy and power. In some ways its technology mimics the Covenant Fuel Rod Gun, although obviously on a smaller scale, but offers similar penetration to the UNSC Battle Rifle.

Particle Beam Rifle: A very precise, powerful weapon, uses relatively familiar particle beam acceleration method to fire a devastating beam of energy. Limited battery capacity means the weapon can fire only 18 bursts before depleting charge. Integrated scope enables two levels of zoom, 5x and 10x. Makes for an excellent sniper weapon.

Brute Shot: This weapon is a type of grenade launcher used, as far as we can tell, exclusively by Brutes. The grenades it fires from a 4-round belt can be deflected deliberately for tactical reasons, such as firing around corners. One of the least precise Covenant weapons yet encountered, limited ammunition capacity is made up for by a huge, razor-sharp bayonet attachment.

Covenant Energy Sword: Initially thought to be purely ceremonial. Few have been seen in combat, but they are invariably carried by the high-ranking Elites. We don't understand how it functions, but it cuts through any armor with ease.

Fuel Rod Gun: Launching highly radioactive fuel rod projectiles, this weapon is affective against both vehicles and personnel. The weapon is bulky, heavy and carries five fuel rods per clip. Single 2x level of magnification as well.

Plasma Grenade: Using an unknown technology that can apparently differentiate between strategic targets and non-threatening surfaces, this grenade, when thrown accurately, adheres to combatant or vehicle, but not to a wall, etc. A three second fuse is activated as soon as the grenade comes to rest either on ground or stuck to an intended target.

*Note* These weapons and weapons descriptions come from the games Halo 1 and Halo 2 instruction manuels and gameplay.

-Human Vehicles-

M12 Warthog LRV: A light reconnaissance vehicle (LRV), a proven and reliable standard UNSC vehicle. Also unofficially known as the "Warthog", the LRV is equipped with a powerful machine gun. Maneuverable and excellent in any terrain, he Warthog relies on superb traction and an updated breaking system.

Armaments/Crew: One 12.7mm three-barreled machine gun/One in driver's seat, one in passenger seat and one in gunner's seat.

M808B Scorpion MBT: Although the Scorpion Main Battle Tank's primary role is as an anti-vehicle platform, its effectiveness against Covenant infantry makes it a useful anti-personnel weapon, too. Ceramic-titanium armor makes it almost invulnerable to small-arms fire. The vehicle has single-pilot seat, but in emergencies can transport four additional infantrymen on "jump-seat" platforms.

Armaments/Crew: 90mm high velocity shell gun, 7.62mm AP-T (Armor Piercing Tracer)/One pilot and four infantry soldiers on "jump-seat" platforms.

Pelicans: The UNSC workhorse. Used for dropping off infantry or supplies. Heavily armored, and armed. It can carry up to 8 passengers while having 2 pilots.

Armaments/Crew: Variable/Twp pilots in pilot-area and eight passengers in cargo-hold.

---

-Covenant Vehicles-

Ghosts: The standard reconnaissance and rapid attack vehicle for the Covenant. Usually, but not always, piloted by Elites. This vehicle is highly maneuverable and fires twin bolts of superheated plasma in 100-250W range. The vehicle is also capable of sustained bursts of speed, although cannont fire and appears to be less maneuverable at such speeds.

Armaments/Crew: Twin plasma cannons/one pilot.

Banshees: Fast and maneuverable, a formidable aerial assault vehicle. Well shielded against small arms fire, the Banshee can be crippled or destroyed by heavier weapons. The fuel rod cannon attached to its underside makes it a dangerous bomber as well as a fast fighter. The Banshee has been observed barrel-rolling and looping in turns and arcs that would be impossible with conventional aerodynamics.

Armaments/Crew: Two plasma cannons and fuel rod cannon/one pilot

Wraith: Slow, bulky and presenting a huge target, the Wraith is nonetheless the Covenant's most destructive mobile armor. Its huge bulk is well shielded, covering fire provides from massive Plasma Mortar makes it an inestimably dangerous foe. Piloted by a single occupant, who controls all vehicle and weapons systems, also features a limited boost system for enhanced maneuverability.

Armaments/Crew: Plasma mortar and two auto-firing plasma cannons/one pilot.

Phantom: The Phantom is the Covenant's dropship, used to deploy fresh troops, or supplies, into the combat zone. They are equipped with three small turrets that have an auto-firing mechanism: two turrets on the sides towards the front, and one turret directly below the Phantom's nose. Heavily armored, it takes about ten missiles from a rocket launcher.

Armaments/Crew: three auto-firing turrets/one pilot and twenty four troops in cargo-hold.

-Covenant Species-

Grunts: The basic infantry unit of the Covenant, Grunts are dangerous in groups but present little threat individually. Short, stocky and relatively slow, they will often panic when faced with superior forces. However, if they are being led by an Elite, they will stand and fight.

Jackals: Excellent shots, the Jackals seem to be higher in status-if not necessarily rank-than Grunts. They often will be found in defensive positions, fighting from behind their distinctive energy shields. A well-used shield makes a Jackal a difficult target, but the notch they use to return fire provides a weak spot that can be exploited.

Hunters: Hunters are basically walking tanks. They are brought in for demolition or heavy defense, and always, always, work in pairs. These massive creatures appear to be composed of multiple organisms that exist within the Hunter armor, creating a bipedal hive creature. Near-impenetrable armor and a devastating hand-held fuel rod weapon make the Hunter pairs very problematic.

Elites: The Elites are the core of the Covenant military. Excellent soldiers, brilliant tacticians, and disciplined, aggressive fighters, they are the primary strength of the Covenant force. Faster, stronger and tougher than Humans, they fight in relatively small numbers but often lead squads of Grunts. Armor color seems to indicate rank, and we believe Elites are promoted based on the numbers of casualties they inflict.

Brutes: Not as readily understood as Elites, Brutes fight together in a pack and are physically stronger. Brutes demonstrate similar battlefield abilities to Elites, and their numbers have demonstrably increased since the conflict began.

Prophets: The leadership cast of the Covenant. They are the administrative or religious in nature and have little to do with actual battlefield circumstances. None has ever been killed or captured, and they appear to be few in number.

*Note* I have no included Drones as we will not be encountering them. This will be a jungle terrain, so Drones will have no use here.

*Note* Like the weapons, these descriptions have been taken from the Halo 1 and 2 handbooks and gameplay.

---

-Sentinels-

We'll encounter them later. (AKA, I don't wanna write about em now)

OOC: I'll just use no bio.

The ground was being torn up all around the man as he charged to the next safe spot. A single Beam Rifle shot ended his attempt, blowing a hole clean through his head. The body slumped to the floor as a red mist followed behind the body. Another five men were pressed against the cold rock, gripping their assorted weapons tightly as the Covenant forces continued to bombard them. On occasion the Human soldiers would let off a few shots, to show that they were still fighting.
"We have to move up!" Roared a Sergeant among them, holding his Assault Rifle in both hands as he peered out from behind the rock.
"Cover me!"

He was out in an instant, ducking behind another rock a few feet ahead, the Covenant hadn't even noticed his movement. He smirked and continued to move left, and then as he came to a cliff face he started to go forward. What was the remains of a temple were set out in front of him, and a few Laser Turrets were positioned inside the windows. He ducked behind a chunk of fallen temple and listened.
"One is gone!" Babbled a Grunt, the sound of a Plasma Rifle followed. Blue blood streaked across the wall that the soldier could see.

He held the Assault Rifle and moved forward, still crouched, until he came to a vertical wall. He climbed up it with ease, using bullet holes as grips. When he got to the second platform he paused, checking his ammo and getting ready to move forward again.

Mark quickly got to attention. He heard gunfire in the distance, UNSC gunfire, and maybe even a plasma bolt or two. ~What the hell?~ thought Mark as he pushed himself against the UNSC escape pod. He held out his MA5B firmly as he scanned the area. He didn't see any red dots on his radar, but, just like last time, it could be some hidden Elites.

The soldier was pressed up against cold stone, feeling the sweat pour down his face. He checked his ammo for the 100th time and jumped around the corner. Two shots were fired from the hip into a Grunt that stood at the end of the walkway. Both hit the chest, sending the blue blood onto the wall behind it. As these shots rang out it became aware that a Human was inside their lines.

Mark noticed the gunfire was closer now. Much closer. He held his assault rifle up to his shoulder, scanning the area. He began to move deeper into the jungle, knowing full well that his unconscious Gray Team was secure. If Mark was headed toward the gunfire, not a single Covenant would get past him.

As Mark walked, he began to see a dead Grunt every once and awhile. Eventually they got more numerous, and the dead began to include Elites. Mark even saw a Brute. ~Either this is a SPARTAN or something else...~ thought Mark as he walked in his green MJOLNIR armor.

The soldier turned around a corner and started firing like crazy. As the Grunt squad in the hall were cut down their Elite leader stumbled out from behind a pillar. It wore Golden armour, just showing how good at its job it truly was. Without a doubt he threw a grenade at the Elite and ducked around the corner, praying that it was dead. His dreams were cut short as the tip of an Energy Sword was visible around the corner.

As Mark moved throughout the jungle, he came upon a bunker. It obviously wasn't of Human make, as the type of metal seemed completely different. This was definitely Covenant. As Mark moved closer, he saw the blue blood of Grunts and purple blood of Elites splashed on the door and surrounding area. "Well, well...." murmured Mark, quietly as he walked forward, and the doors slid apart.

Mark almost puked when the doors opened fully. Blood was splattered about the coridors, and at least a dozen Grunts and an Elite lay dead. Mark shook his head, and continued own the hallway and as he walked, the gunfire became much louder. Mark though he had even heard the snarl of an Elite.

The sergeant backed away still as the Elite appeared at the end of the hall. It snarled and lowered its head. With another snarl it ran at him, slicing with the Energy Sword in front of itself. The soldier fell onto his back and as he hit the ground, and a rock with his head, he loosed off a few shots before his world turned black. A cold spray touched his face, this was the last he remembered.

Mark turned a corner, then another corner, and finally he came upon two beings. One Covenant, one Human. Mark saw the Covenant, obviously an Elite, and a golden one at that, standing over the Human with an Energy sword in its grip. Mark swore in his head, and he opened up on the Elite with a three round burst. Mark was surprised when the armor-piercing rounds hit skin and blood sprayed; he would of expected the shields to block it, but obviously the Human managed to take out the shields.

The Elite snarled in response, and ran at Mark. Mark gave him an ancient rude gesture that involved the middle finger and fired another burst of three rounds. The Elite dropped dead on the ground as the bullets slammed into flesh. Mark, not paying anymore attention to the dead Elite, ran forward to his fellow Human. Once Mark leaned down, he gently shook the man, trying to wake him up.

The soldier woke with a start, and rammed the stock of his Assault Rifle into the chin of the man standing over him. He rolled back and jumped to his feet, pulling out his Magnum and aiming at him.
"Where am I?" He questioned fiercly.
